Our Mission

Science London is committed to training and enabling scientists and science communicators to employ equitable practice within their work.

Our work can be divided into two key aims:

1. Produce practical sessions and resources that contribute to the development of equitable events and outreach aimed specifically at those who are minoritised non-scientists (e.g. people of colour, women, disabled people, LGBTQIA+ and those with intersecting identities)

2. Support our members in their ambitions to become better, more equitable, science communicators

The word ‘science’ used herein should be understood to refer to the so-called ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ sciences; Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or Medicine, (‘STEMM’).

Science London reformed in January 2020, as a support and development network for scientists and science communicators to employ equitable practise within their work

We begin by highlighting structural inequalities in science and science communication as described by many activists and researchers across science, technology, and society. The content we share and events we organise form part of our collective process to challenge ourselves and the science we are a part of - and we hope that you will join us on that journey. There is no shortcut to transforming science. The journey will be long, difficult, uncomfortable, painful, and exasperating, but it will also create space for joy, redress, imagination, and innovation.

Science London will be working to digest theoretical and practical knowlege related to science communication and engagement and share relevant thoughts, articles, videos, discussions and more to the science and science communication community. We look forward to hearing your thoughts, challenges, critiques and discussions, as we develop together.

You can read more about our commitments in our blog post here.
